Photo Gallery/RECAP: Girls soccer faces first loss against Wildcats

Westside took on their first Top 10 opponent on Tuesday as Millard West came to Phelps Field and showed their best against the Warriors.

The game started out very static, as no team took outright possession or had a good shot at a goal for almost the entire first half. However, with two minutes remaining until halftime, Millard West managed to get the ball on the left side of the box and tuck one in the net. This wasn’t good for the girls but luckily they could recoup during halftime as they were down 1-0. In the second half, the game remained uneventful until a penalty was called in the box on the Warriors. The Wildcats managed to convert on the PK, extending their lead to 2-0. Soon after, Westside struck back, as S. Fehr cut back on a defender and hit a beautiful shot that just hit the side post. However, Dani Barton was there to clean up the miss and cut the lead down to 1. After this, Westside was forced to be extra offensive, which created a couple more opportunities, but none were converted for the Warriors. This offensive pushed allowed Millard West to tack on one more goal and that was all she wrote. 3-1 Wildcats, giving the girls their first loss and pushing their record to 4-1.

The girls will take on Burke this Thursday at home and will attempt to bounce back from the loss.
