Girls golf continues to strive towards greatness
September 27, 2017
A lot of work is put into being a Westside girls golfer. They have practices every day after school where they go to the range to hit balls, or to the putting green to chip. There are frequent meets where the golfers have to miss at least one day of school for most of the span of golf season. That may sound nice to some, getting to miss so much school, but sophomore Katherine Albers gets overwhelmed at times.
“It is kind of stressful because I’m bad at catching up on work,” Albers said. “The tournaments are fun and all, but I don’t really like missing school.”
High school is already stressful enough, but when you add makeup work and tests the stress levels rise even higher. These golfers missing school can also be hard on their teachers, mostly because they get so behind in class.
“Teachers are sometimes understanding, but if I miss school constantly they get mad about it,” Albers said.
Despite the stress that comes with missing school weekly, the golf season is usually a lot of fun.
“Practices can be boring at times, but I am always with my friends which makes them fun,” Albers said.
Watch out for the Westside girls as they near the end of this year’s golf season. With metros, districts, and state coming up, they will be working harder than ever to nail the tiny details in order to compete to the best of their abilities.
