TACKLE TALK/PREVIEW: Warriors take on Central Eagles
September 22, 2017
Westside will hit the road on Friday, September 22, 2017, to take on the Omaha Central Eagles. The Warriors enter the matchup with a three game win streak and a 3-1 overall record to their name. They’re coming off a lopsided 49-0 victory over Omaha Northwest. Central, however, will come into the matchup with an 0-4 record. The Eagles are coming off a 38-23 loss at North Platte.
Last week, quarterback Dylan Plautz was in on six touchdowns; a stat that was highlighted by a 25 yard run that started as a scramble. He was assisted by senior receiver Caleb Schweigart who was on the receiving end of 9 of Plautz’s 16 completions for a total of 108 yards. Senior Jaden Kohls rushed for 109 yards and a touchdown as well. Against a defense that allowed 20 first downs last week, look for Plautz and his offense to move the ball at an efficient level.
On the other side of the ball, a Central team that is led by first year coach Lance Giffin is looking to steal their first win of the season. They come in off a six game losing streak as a program with their last win coming on October 7th of last year when they traveled to Lincoln Southwest. Omaha Central athletic director Luke Dillon said that he’s starting to see a little more of former coach Jay Ball’s offensive tactics, and that seems to be helping the Eagles’ offense get on their feet. Current Central head coach Lance Griffin said they made a lot of mistakes, and that he expects Jalen Harris, who had 183 yards on five receptions in last week’s loss, is someone to keep an eye on.
“[Last week’s loss] was on us. There were too many mistakes to win on the road. This week, I believe Jalen Harris will continue to be a big time playmaker for us,” Griffin said.
The Warriors and Eagles are set to do battle on Friday, September 22, 2017, at 7 p.m. at Central. The game will be televised on Cox channel 13 (1013 for HD), and streamed online at yurview.com.
