Richie’s Reviews: Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2
May 11, 2017
In “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2”, Star-Lord (Chris Pratt) and his crew are back again, fighting against various aliens to some bad-ass classic rock. When Rocket (Bradley Cooper), the talking tech-savvy raccoon, is caught stealing batteries from the Sovereign (an elite alien race); the team are on the run. But during their escape Star-Lord discovers the truth with who his true father really is.
One thing I truly admire from the “Guardians of the Galaxy” movies from other marvel films is the attention to style. Director/Writer James Gunn definitely knows how to portray the visions in his head. The vibrant futurista shown on screen is incredibly pleasing to the viewer’s eye. Although the hues are colorful, so is the audio. The 60’s/70’s pop songs complete the stylistic approach, mixing futuristic visuals with vintage music, ultimately making both “Guardians of the Galaxy” movies have a unique feel.
Another thing I especially appreciate is the quick-wit comedy James Gunn writes. Most marvel movies have moments of comedic relief, but the “Guardians of the Galaxy” movies have comedy throughout the whole movie. The dry and unique comedy usually makes the movie have frequent moments of comedic gold. One example of this is when Baby Groot (Vin Diesel) plays music and continues to dance when you can see his friends being beaten up by a monstrous alien out of focus in the background.
“Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” has proven that the Marvel Universe has not yet run out of ideas. The level of creativity and imagination James Gunn has is really what makes “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” the movie it is. I found myself enjoying this “Guardians of the Galaxy” film more enjoyable than the first volume. It seemed that Gunn knew what the audience wanted and essentially delivered the goods.
