PREVIEW: Girls varsity basketball has high hopes for this season
November 23, 2016
With basketball season coming into full swing, the girls team is ready to compete against some of the best teams in the state. Head coach Steve Clark and junior Quinn Weidemann feel that this season will be one to remember.
“We have always played really well as a team and that is something we plan on continuing to do this season,” Weidemann said. “We are younger this year so we lost some more experienced players in the seniors, but the seniors this year will be just as experienced.”
After winning state Weidemann’s freshman year, both she and Clark hope to return to Pinnacle Bank Arena again this year.
“We have played in the state tournament the last two years, so we’re hoping to use that momentum and excitement for this team to make it back to state,” Clark said. “This is my sixth season as the varsity girls basketball coach, but I’ve been coaching at multiple levels for over 20 years in basketball, baseball, and football.”
With many new additions to the team this year, the girls are looking to use this as an advantage because of the speed that has been added to their team.
“The new varsity players add speed and we are very fast this year,” Weidemann said. “I hope to lead the team this year by being a good example to the new players.”
The team has been practicing and preparing for their first upcoming game of the season.
“The best part about basketball season is the chemistry and relationships that develop between the players and the coaches,” Clark said. “Practices are a fun way to develop those relationships through competition and the amount of time we spend together.”
Make sure to come out and support the team at their first home game on Friday, Dec. 9 against Lincoln.
