REVIEW: Maha Music Festival
August 23, 2016
Thousands of adults and teens gather in Aksarben Village every year for Maha Music Festival to indulge in live music by various artists and bands. Since its establishment in 2008, Omaha’s very own indie music festival has gathered a large and diverse audience. The festival is completely non-profit and the proceeds are divided between multiple local charities.
The 8th annual event took place this past Saturday, Aug. 20 in Stinson Park. With an attendance of 7,600, the venue was packed with people of all ages, races and tastes in music.
From experimental pop artist Grimes, to California native rapper Vince Staples, the lineup was incredibly diverse. Even local comedy and slam poetry acts were featured in between performances.
Although music was the main attraction, it definitely wasn’t the only one. Food stands lined the block and a ferris wheel towered over the village, giving music enthusiasts stunning birds-eye views of the stages and crowds. Local shops were also featured at the Festival, including Scout; a small boutique located in downtown Omaha.
Maha had live music, trendy souvenirs, tasty food, and an all in all positive vibe. Leaving little room for criticism and having yet to disappoint, Maha Music Festival can be sure to count on patrons for many years to come.
