RECAP: Varsity Girls Soccer end a difficult season
After weeks of hard work, the girls varsity soccer team ended their season after falling to Millard West in the district finals 1-0. After playing the Wildcats in the beginning of the season and losing 3-0, the girls knew going into the game that it was going to be a tough one to win. Coach Nathan Moseley had high hopes for the season, despite the outcome.
“Our goal every year is to win state, so obviously it’s a disappointment to not make it to state,” Moseley said. “It’s unfortunate the way that the wildcard points turned out.”
Last year, the girls team won districts, but fell short in the first round of the state tournament to Omaha Marian. This year, with a record of 11-6, the warriors were placed as ninth for Class A rankings at the end of the season.
“I think we played together as a team more than we have in the past, we realized we would have to find other ways of scoring,” Moseley said. “I’m proud of what they accomplished this year. They fought hard and had some good wins against really good teams.”
Although the team didn’t reach all of the goals they had set for the season, Moseley reflects back positive thoughts on the overall results.
“You can win a lot of games and win state, but be miserable in the process. I’d rather compete and get closer as a team and not make it to state, but enjoy the process along the way,” Moseley said.
