Week in Review 4/25-5/2
Golf
The boys golf team has had a successful season so far, sitting at number 11 in Nebraska High School standings. The team competed in the Capital Cities invite at Yankee Hill Country Club last Thursday, placing 11th. They will be playing in the Pius X invite on May 2 at Arbor Links Golf Club and continuing their busy season with the upcoming metro tournament starting on May 11 at Benson Park and the district tournament on May 16 at Holmes golf course.
Boys Soccer
The varsity boys soccer team continued their season by playing in the MSPC Cup Tournament and starting off with a win against Millard South 1-0 in overtime. The boys team played Columbus Scotus in the finals of the tournament, and after a hard fought battle, they fell 1-0. They will be competing in the district tournament this week playing Benson on their own turf at 5:00 on May 2.
Girls Soccer
The Varsity girls soccer team also competed in the MSPC Cup last week, winning the trophy of the tournament with victories against Papio South (3-0) and Omaha Central (5-0). The girls team will be competing in districts this week on Wednesday and Thursday, playing their first game against Burke.
Baseball
Competing in five games last week, the varsity boys ended the week with a 2-3 record, with wins over Norris and Lincoln Northeast. The boys fell to rival Creighton Prep twice last week, once 10-8 and once 8-5. Boys Varsity will be playing against tenth-ranked Papillion-LaVista on Tuesday, May 3 at PLVHS. They will also be competing in districts next Monday and Saturday in Grand Island.
Tennis
After losing to rivals Marian and Duchesne, the girls varsity tennis team finished their season out strong by winning all but three of their matches. The team will end the season with a duel against Bryan at Seymour Smith Park, a triangular against Lincoln East and Southeast at Westside and finally Districts and State at Koch Pavillion.
Track
Both boys and girls track has seen a busy season so far traveling across Nebraska to compete. Recently, varsity track traveled to Sioux City and Sophomore Jaylen Knight took home the gold in both the 100 meter and 200 meter races. Senior Mike Merical won the 200 meter and got 2nd in the 400 meter. Juniors Jakob Phillips and Milo Greder took 1st in the 800 and 1600 meter races, respectively.
Prom Court
For the first time ever in Westside history, a prom court was created. The Queen candidates included Abigal Lippincott, Lizzie Harwood, Nata Ward, Kate Hughes, Haley Foral, Victoria Liakos, Sophie Cosimano, Olivia Coutler, Stephanie Dong and Claire Hoffman. The King Candidates were Levi DeVries, Jacob Thomas, Nick Gross, Jack Connelly, Xzavier Fort, Jackson Frerichs, Payton Knott, Isaac Henson, Majdi Alkarute and Ben Battafarano. After days of voting, Nata Ward and Majdi Alkarute were chosen as the 2016 Prom King and Queen.
