Q: What did you take away from playing college sports?
A: “The biggest thing probably was just the relationships with other teammates because I’m still close with those teammates and the coach. Also just learning how to manage your time between school, and I was student teaching, and playing a sport as well. I think it helps you later on in life on how to manage your time at your own job.”
Q: Would you recommend students to play college sports if they have the opportunity?
A: “Absolutely. I think with the relationships that you build, with not only your own teammates but players from other colleges, and the traveling and being able to visit different parts of the world- I think learning and the experiences that you have that you will use later on in life make a huge difference.”
Theresa Gosnell
University of Nebraska-Lincoln (D1)
Graduation Year: 1995
Cross Country, Indoor Track and Outdoor Track
Gosnell ran in college for five seasons. During her senior year, Gosnell was awarded Academic Athlete of the Year. She was also an All-American for four seasons.
Q: What did you take away from playing college sports?
A: “I just loved being apart of the team and all of the friends that you met. Also the work ethic that it takes to go to college and compete in sports because you miss a lot of classes from traveling.
Q: Would you recommend students to play college sports if they have the opportunity?
A: Definitely, the experience that you get, and for me it was because I got to travel a lot of places. Also the team bonding that you wouldn’t have otherwise.”
Bob Greco
Indiana University (D1), Iowa Western University (D2), Dallas Baptist University (D1)
Graduation Year: 1986
Baseball
Greco was recruited by Indiana to play college baseball. After not being satisfied with how his season was going, Greco transferred to Iowa Western University and played there for two years. Greco then transferred again to Dallas Baptist University where he finished his baseball career.
Q: What did you take away from playing college baseball?
A: “I think you take a lot of things away from athletics in general, I thought it was really fun, and it helped motivate me for school. That’s probably why I coach now, I kind of always knew I wanted to be a coach.”
Q: Did playing college baseball affect your academics?
A: “For the most part I think it helped me, I think it hurt me in that I transferred schools so much and I ended up with more undergraduate credits than I needed. But to me, the experiences you have are what makes you; that’s what helped mold me into the person that I am now”
