Warrior Football club motivates athlete to be Lifter of the Year
October 9, 2015
Motivating athletes, is the sole purpose of the Warrior Football club, to encourage football players to grow stronger, faster and prepare for any season whether it be winter, summer or spring.
In 1998, Coach Brett Froendt started the Warrior Football Club, because he wanted to encourage athletes to lift during their off season.
“I was an assistant coach at the time, there wasn’t anything organized lifting for the kids. Therefore, we didn’t have very many kids lifting. I kind of got tired of that and decided to take 15 guys who wanted to lift all the time and created the Warrior Football club,” Froendt said.
Froendt, decided to create different types of incentives and records to keep the athletes going throughout season. The main incentives were the Iron Warrior and Lifters of the Year.
In order to become Lifter of the Year, football players must have 80 percent of attendance of all the off-season training (winter, spring, and summer). By doing this, they can become an Iron Warrior which then they are automatically nominated for lifter of the year. If other members of the football have 50 percent of attendance to off-season training, they are allowed to vote for the Lifter of the Year Award.
“Its a way for us to physically and mentally train our athletes for the upcoming season,” varsity football coach Craig Secora said. “It’s also a way that we can instill our core values within our football program in a competitive environment. It’s a way we can prepare for football and in life because you want to have loyalty, discipline, and unity. It’s a mission that we follow, just like our mission statement.”
Athletes are chosen for this award, because they have proved to their classmates and their class that they represent the program and want to achieve goals. This year’s Ultimate Warrior is senior Jack Connelly.
“I think the program is important to be involved in because it teaches kids, young or older, great work ethic that they can apply into their everyday lives,” senior Jack Connelly said. “The lifter of the year and ultimate warrior awards also gives the kids goals to strive for in the weight room,”
Congratulations to Lifters of the Year: Jacob Fauglid, Jacob Kent, Bennett Hellman and Alex Nielsen.
