Westside affiliates inducted into the Nebraska Hall of Fame
October 11, 2015
Recently Westside had two former Warriors inducted into the Nebraska Hall of Fame.
Swim instructor Doug Krecklow is the second swim coach in Westside history to be inducted. Cal Bentz was the first in 1997. The other inductee was former basketball standout Dean Thompson.
“Being inducted is a tremendous honor and I am humbled by my selection,” Thompson said. “This award is very prestigious in the state so I am humbled to be included with the other inductees.”
In his senior year, Thompson led the Warriors to the Class A state championship for boys basketball. Thompson scored an average of 23 points a game.
While playing with the University of Nebraska at Omaha, Thompson set the school scoring record with 1,816 points. He played 117 games and led the Mavericks to the NCAA Divison II tournament three times.
“As far as the magnitude of the accomplishment, I think it speaks to a lot of things, but none more important than the role my coaches and teammates play in making this a reality,” Thompson said.
