PREVIEW: New coach for Warriors prepared for upcoming season
With a 14-23 record to end the 2014-2015 season, new head coach, Jessica Fauss, has high expectations for the upcoming season.
“This group of girls is amazing. From top to bottom, freshman to varsity. Everybody is outgoing, they love the sport, we’re having a great time getting better,” Fauss said.
After losing six players, the team is returning with several new leaders.
“Last year’s team had some great seniors that graduated,” Fauss said. “One that had been a four year starter and one that had been a three year starter.”
Luckily for the team, they have adjusted so far to losing some of last years star players.
“They are working really hard,” Fauss said. “We worked out all summer at six a.m. Anybody that wanted to be in the volleyball department worked out at six. All summer lifting and conditioning and yoga to get ready for the season and I think it really helped them all bond together and form a great team mentality.”
Senior captain Sam Duncan, too, has high expectations for the season.
“I think last season we didn’t expect to be very good, so we didn’t have that mindset of state and winning games because that’ll affect us in November come state,” Duncan said.
Varsity’s first tournament begins Friday Sept. 4 at Bellevue West and the first home game is Tuesday Sept. 15.
