PREVIEW: Girls tennis moves on from metros to state

On Tuesday, May 13 and Wednesday, May 14, girls  varsity tennis competed in their metro tournament. The two singles and two doubles teams that competed in metros all seeded in the top five.

During the two-day event, number one singles Lizzie Harwood and number two doubles Elizabeth and Ashley Tyler placed fourth. Number two singles Kathryn Shehan placed fifth while number one doubles Phoebe Placzek and Cara Treu placed sixth.

Although Westside placed second in Metros last year, this year Westside placed fourth.

Westside Girls Tennis will be competing in the state tournament this Thursday and Friday.

Even though the metro tournament doesn’t determine whether or not girls make it into state, it helps their seeding for state.

“It is really important that you do well during the metro tournament so that you can get a better seed for state and increase your chances of making it to the second day,” said number one singles junior Lizzie Harwood.

The state committee will be choosing the seeds for the state tournament tonight.

“Our team has really come together throughout the season and we are playing really well right now and I expect good things at state,” said Harwood.
