Varsity baseball team gets inducted into Omaha Hall of Fame
Yesterday, April 24, 2015, the Westside boys varsity baseball team was inducted into the Omaha Sports Hall of Fame. The team won the Sports Athletes of the year for Nebraska. Bob Greco, the varsity baseball coach was also awarded coach of the year for the entire nation.
The baseball team celebrated their victories and accomplishments last night at the Scott Conference Center located on UNO’s Aksarben campus.
“It’s kind of a big accomplishment for all of us because this was only the 13th year [of the hall of fame]” Graham Cahill said, a varsity baseball player that was a part of the National Team.
Greco accepted the award last night and gave a speech about the team’s season and accomplishments. He mentioned all the work that the team has put into the season and how much they have bonded. He also mentioned that the team has had a fun time winning through out the season. The team was very proud to except the award.
The team’s season is far from done. The team has a 21-3 record and are ranked number one in the state right now. The team will be competing in the District tournament Friday, May 8th.
