Fundraiser being held for death of student’s boyfriend

Junior Candace Quaites’ boyfriend Erik Goodlett, a sophomore at UNO, passed away from Osteosarcoma — cancer that starts in the bones — Monday, April 13.

Erik was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma in February, when the cancer started in his back. The Goodlett family has had a long history of cancer, including Erik’s father who died from Liposarcoma — cancer that arises in deep soft tissue — when Erik was six years old and Erik’s little brother, Nicholas, just recently finished treatments for his Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. Erik’s family has also lost their uncle Terri, aunt Sherri and cousin Tiffany due to cancer.

Erik was a big supporter of Westside athletics, especially coming to almost every one of Quaites’ volleyball games and almost all of her track meets.

As a way to help the Goodlett family, Lighthouse Pizza is having a fundraiser on Friday, April 17. The Lighthouse staff has volunteered to work all day for free and if you go into the restaurant all of the profits from the day will be going towards his family.

“Until the very end he battled his illness with everything he had,” A Facebook post by Lighthouse Pizza said. “He went at it head on with unwavering optimism. No one who had visited him in the hospital heard him complain one time.”
