Westside girls’ soccer hires new junior varsity coach

This season, Westside girls’ soccer program hired a new coach. Nathan May was hired to coach the junior varsity girls’ soccer team this season.

Coach May decided to come to Westside because he knew that the girls soccer program was a good program and he was looking for somewhere where he could coach.

“I wanted to be in a program that I knew that I could win and could make an impact at,” said May.

May has had a lot of past experience prior to becoming a new staff member for Westside. May played at Simpson College, a division three school where they competed in the national tournament three out of four years.

Besides his new job at Westside, May has coached junior varsity at Ankeny High School for two years, taking the team to state both times. He is also coaching a U-16 boys team for the club Phoenix.

Coach May has many different skills and ideas that he hopes he can bring to his team. His goal is to get all of the girls who want to be on varsity, on varsity. He knows what it takes to be on varsity and he wants to make sure that each player is bringing a competitive, winning attitude every day in practice. In addition he will make sure that his players are working on technical skills everyday so that the players continue to improve their playing skills.

“I think he will do great,” said head varsity soccer coach Nathan Moseley. “He has a lot of experience coaching club teams and he played in college.”

In addition, May has many goals for the JV girls’ season, including putting the team first and competing every game.

“One of our goals is to compete, if not win, every single game, have individual improvement on the team, and focus on getting the players better as well,” said May.
