MAGIC MAN: Student has been doing magic for a decade
Junior Parker Gifford never reveals his secret.
Well, that is until someone figures out part of the trick on their own.
Gifford has been learning magic tricks since he was 6 years old, and has never told his secret since. His father showed him a trick one day, and Gifford was hooked.
“It was just something I could do with my hands that also entertained other people,” Gifford said.
He began by learning the one trick from his dad, and it only grew from there. Gifford learned tricks by using YouTube videos, books, websites and kits that he bought.
His magic skills started off with basic card tricks and then prop magic, but Gifford usually does card tricks because of the convenience of carrying a deck of cards with him.
Now, a decade after starting, Gifford can do countless amounts of different tricks.
One of the most impressive tricks he can do is called “The Story.” In the trick, Gifford tells a story through all the cards and predicts which card is going to come next while flipping through them. When he shows people tricks, the reaction is usually the same.
“[They] throw their hands in the air and say ‘Oh, no!’ and walk away,” Gifford said. “Amazement. People are usually pretty awestruck.”
Gifford does think being able to do magic tricks is pretty rare, but with enough time put into it, anyone can do it.
