PREVEW: Girls State Basketball
For the first time in five years the Westside girls basketball team is heading to the State Tournament! The team will be the No. 3 seed in the tournament after posting a 23-4 record during the regular season.
The first matchup for the girls team will be against the No. 6 seed Millard West. The two teams played in the regular season; Millard West came out victorious 71-62. Quinn Wediemann lead the Warriors with 20 points, and Jay Bridgeman chipped in 16. Five Millard West players scored in double figures, lead by Marisa Lowe with 15 points. However, Lowe has been out for the past couple games with injury. Her return for the game tonight is questionable.
If the Warriors pick up a victory tonight, they will move onto the semi-finals of the tournament tomorrow night at 8:45 p.m. They will play the winner of the Lincoln Northeast and Kearney. The Warriors have not played Lincoln Northeast, but beat Kearney 56-55.
And if the Warriors continue on their winning ways all the way through Friday, they will play in the finals on Saturday at 6:30 p.m.
Remember, Westside students, there will be a bus to get down to the game tonight. The games will be held at the Pinnacle Bank Arena in Lincoln. Tickets are $5.00 for students and $7.00 for adults. Make sure to go support the Warriors in their first State Tournament in five years!
