PREVIEW: Battle of the Bands
With Winter Formal quickly approaching, the bands in Battle of the Bands aren’t the only ones planning for the big night.
Every Tuesday morning for the past month English instructor Charolette Weyler and the Student Advisory Board (SAB) officers got together to organize this annual event.
This year, there are seven bands performing at Battle of the Bands, which is more than last year. The bands performing are Jamie Lee Curtis, ATSMe, Clark and Company, Random Samples, House Arrest, Kathryn Sheehan and Barrett Rector, and Far and Wide.
“[Having a lot of bands is] a good problem to have, but it’s also kind of tricky because we never want to tell people, ‘No,’” Weyler said. “With these time restraints, we may have to.”
One problem that had last year that they’re trying to fix for this year is a time restraint. Since there is more bands performing this year than last year, and only a time period of 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. for all the bands to perform, each band will get five minutes to perform before either the lights or the microphone will be turned off.
Another new addition SAB has made to Battle of the Bands is they’ve added theater students to help everything run more smoothly.
“It helps that we have those theater kids on board to man the sound booth,” Weyler said. “Our officers are amazing but there’s only so many of them and I think they were spread a bit thin last year so it helps to have that extra help in the sound booth.”
While there are some changes in Battle of the Bands, what they are keeping the same is the judging. SAB randomly selects 10 members of the audience to judge the performances, and pick their overall favorite.
So come to Battle of the Bands and you may be randomly selected to judge who wins this years battle. Battle of the Bands will be held Sunday, Feb. 15 in the auditorium during the Winter Formal dance.
