The first thing I had asked the married couple of business instructor Jessica Fauss and science instructor Michael Fauss was what it was like to work together.
Michael immediately responded with, “Horrible.”
Jessica laughed and said, “It’s great.”
But since the Fauss’ work in different departments, they don’t get to see each other too often. They did see each other a lot when they met while working at the Pottery Barn.
“The very first time I met him, I called my best friend and said, ‘I just met the man I’m going to marry, except for he’s shorter than me and a teacher!’” Jessica said.
After they had worked together for a while, they went on a few dates.
“Every date, I was pretty much rejected,” Michael said. “Something would happen where she would not call or text back, so I was like, ‘Okay, I get the hint.’ … Then she finally called me and we went on a date…”
“He gave me a side hug!” Jessica said.
“I thought she just wanted a dinner, so I’m leaving so I just give her a side hug and she thought this was going to be the ‘sparks flying,’” Michael said.
While they were dating, Jessica became a manager at Pottery Barn so Michael could no long work there. She had been working at Omaha Bryan at the time, and a job opened up at Westside, so she applied.
“From then it was pretty much history,” Michael said.
Now that they work in the same building, it is convenient for both of them in case either of them forgets money.
“It some ways it’s like we have separate jobs but then the convenience of being together if we need to,” Michael said.
“We like working here and working together [but] I hate that he wears that ugly coat every day,” Jessica said.
“Function over fashion,” Michael said.
“It’s so ugly.”
“It’s awesome.”
I had no more questions and I thanked the Michael and Jessica for doing the interview.
But Michael stopped me and asked, “You didn’t even ask about the best day ever?”
A little hesitant, I asked, “What was the best day ever?”
“We get married the day after Christmas, so we’re all at her parents house getting ready to open presents and her grandma brings out this fruit salad and what did she say?” Michael said. “Let me remind you this is the day after our wedding, ”Oh my God, this is the best day ever!” I mean totally overshot by getting married. I could’ve got her a fruit salad and it would’ve been better than that.”
“You don’t understand how good this fruit salad is,” Jessica said.
“This was the best day of her life, was the day after our wedding,” Michael said.
“Because we were already married! AND we got fruit salad,” Jessica said.
But as Michael said, “Happy wife, happy life.”
