ICYMI: KB Baseball is Headed to the Semifinal
Last night, KB Building Services (Westside’s American Legion summer baseball team) won its third game of the American Legion World Series in as many tries. Its record improved to 3-0 in the tournament with the victory over Waipahu, Hawaii. KB got off to a big start scoring three runs in the bottom of the first inning, but Hawaii responded with three runs in the next half inning. It wasn’t long before KB struck again with three more runs in the bottom of the second. After that inning, KB took control and never lost the lead again. KB had big innings in the sixth, scoring 3 runs and then adding two more in the seventh. The game ended in a 12-8 KB win. With the win, KB won its division (the West Division), meaning it plays the runner-up of the East Division in the semifinal.
Now, let’s take a look at how they got here. It started in the state tournament, where KB beat Pinnacle Bank, Roof Tech Wildcats, Associated Fire, and Hastings Five points in order before suffering their first loss to Roof Tech Wildcats. KB got their revenge, beating Roof Tech (Millard West) in the second game and securing its spot in the regional tournament before beating PI Midwest (Creighton Prep) 14-2 in the state tournament championship game.
KB then won its regional tournament, defeating the team from St. Cloud, Minn. 5-3 to advance to the American Legion World Series. KB rolled through its first two games, winning against Columbia, Tenn. 6-3, followed by a 9-6 win over Chico, Calif.
KB advances to the semifinal and will take on Midland, Mich. at 7 p.m on ESPN3. If KB were to win, they would play in the championship game at 6 p.m. Tuesday, on ESPNU.
