Senior Lot Mayhem
The end of a school day is hectic. Students and faculty are all trying to leave, parents are picking up their kids and after school activities are being held. Trying to leave the schools parking lots can be difficult. Yes, it’s hard to get out of any parking lot, but the senior lot is another story.
There are three parking lots within the senior lot so the line of cars to leave wraps around the entire lot. Trying to leave this lot after school can take up to ten minutes.
In addition to the hustle and bustle of student drivers, there are eight to 10 white school vans that line up right in front of the doors all the way up the sidewalk. These vans are a part of Westside transportation used to drive out of the school district to get students to school.
These vans sit on the only street into the lot, making the two-way road a one-way road. There are people slamming on their brakes as these vans pull out right in front of them. It’s as if these drivers think they don’t have to wait for anyone to let them pull out. There are many times I’ve had to slam on my brakes because one or two of those vans have pulled out in front of me. These vans need to be more aware. Not only do they almost hit cars, they almost hit students trying to walk from school to their cars. It makes something as simple as walking to your car a dangerous task, and it makes trying to leave the parking lot that much more difficult.
