No need to part with your laptop: Now available to purchase

Long hours, late nights and stressful times; students have gone through everything with their laptops provided by Westside’s one-to-one program. This year, for students who are not ready to part from their white MacBook, the district will be giving the option of purchasing the laptop.

Laptops will be available for purchase this year due to technology refresh the district is undergoing over the summer; the district will be replacing the current MacBooks with 11-inch MacBook Airs, and making a number of other changes which you can read about here. Seniors can buy their current laptops starting Thursday during checkout. For freshmen, sophomores and juniors, purchase of laptops will be available May 29 and 30.

The sale price for the laptops will be $300 with a check, $310 if using a credit card. There will be a special line when turing in laptops where students can purchase the computers. To purchase the laptop, students need a parent signature and payment. The laptops will be cleared of all restriction and be upgraded to an administrative level. You will be able to keep all of your personal documents on your laptop. Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office, along with other software, will be removed from the laptops.

The district is selling the computers as part of the funding for the technology refresh. During past technology updates, laptops were recycled to the elementary schools for carts in the classrooms. However, since the district went to a one-to-one program for all grades, the current laptops have no use to the district. There will also be a cheaper price for the previous generation of MacBooks starting after the second week of June.
