Boys Soccer Team Stays Strong Heading into Districts
Just one week away from the district soccer tournament, the boys varsity soccer team has an 11-3 record and is ranked fifth in the state. In the last week they played two games.
The first game of two, in the last week, took place at home Thursday, April 24 against Bellevue West. The game ended in a 4-2 victory for Westside. Junior Jared Andrews led the team in scoring with two goals in the first half. Seniors Chase McCann and Riley Harberg also added to the mix with one goal apiece. These goals also came in the first half, giving Westside a strong 4-0 lead going into the final 40 minutes.
The second game of two for the boys team was at home, Monday, April 28 versus Papillion-La Vista. For 9 players, this was the final regular season game at Phelps field, as it was senior night. They then led the team to a decisive 6-0 win over Papillion-La Vista, including goals from four different seniors.
In the following weeks Westside will play two games, May 1-2, in an invitational held at Papillion-La Vista before moving on to the district tournament, May 5-8.
The team will also be entering the postseason with an easier district seeding as Omaha South was recently forced to forfeit seven game wins from earlier in the season for playing an ineligible player.
