Girls Soccer Undefeated Entering Tournament Season
The girls varsity soccer team kicked off its season at Millard South. Senior Gigi Grant scored the team’s first goal of the season, giving the team a 1-0 win in its first game. Since then, the team has won five straight games without faltering.
The second game of the team’s season was a close contest against Millard North. The game was tied 1-1 at the end of regulations time, and then went into two overtimes before ending in penalty kicks. The Warriors managed to win the penalty kicks for their second win of the season.
“Our season is going really well so far,” varsity soccer player senior Gigi Grant said. “Each game we have improved on connecting our passes.”
After beating the Mustangs, the team continued its season with a 2-1 win over Lincoln East, with goals made by Kellen Dobry and junior Michelle Xiao. Then it beat Lincoln Pius 2-1, with goals by Xiao and junior Maura Maynard, before beating Bellevue East 2-0, with goals by Xiao and Dobry. Monday, April 8, Westside beat Papillion-La Vista 2-0. Both goals were scored by senior Summer Khalil.
“I think we’re all becoming smarter players, on and off the ball,” Grant said.
The team looks to continue its undefeated season against Skutt and then Thursday at the Metro tournament.
“Our Metro’s schedule will be a little difficult if we don’t bring our A-game,” Grant said. “If we keep our heads in the game we’ll play very well. We have the skill and talent to beat the top teams, like Marian, in Metros.”
