Westside Student Robbed at Neighborhood Arby’s

What junior Kenneth Owens thought was just a slow day at work March 7 took a turn for the worse when the Arby’s at 1736 S. 72nd St., where he was working, got robbed.

“The very first thing that happened was that they came through one of our entryways and my manager heard the bell ring and said, ‘That’s weird,'” Owens said. “He went over to see who it was and I opened the door just a little to see if it was a costumer and then five seconds later they saw me and attacked me. [They] pushed me off of the chair, kicked me and threw my new glasses to the ground. One of the girls yelled, ‘Take his phone.'”

The robbers took around $1,000 and Owen’s cell phone. According to the Omaha Police Department, two women that were wearing ski masks and black clothing are the suspects in the case. Police are still looking for information on the robbery.

When the robbers first came into the restaurant, Owens’s initial reaction was to listen and try his best not to get harmed. One of his other coworkers was strangled and almost sprayed with Mace.

“I thought that, ‘I am going to get shot and not live the life I want to,'” Owens said.

Although there was a lot going on, Owens listened to the robbers to save his life.

“It’s more important to respond and listen so your life has a [lower] risk of being taken,” Owens said.
