Westside Introduces the Cycling Team
Westside English instructor Nathan Moseley and math instructor Nick Joslin are putting together a cycling team at the beginning of next school year. Competing in the fall of 2014, the team will participate in various types of races against other schools. This will be the first year Westside will be providing an organized cycling team, but there has already been some history with cycling at Westside.
“I’ve been doing the cycling club for probably four or five years now, and we’ve always talked about how it’d be fun to have some sort of competition with other schools,” Joslin said.
Moseley’s brother is going to be running an identical team at Millard West, which will also pave the way for other Millard schools and schools around the area to start their own teams.
In the past, Joslin has had between six and twelve people in his road bike cycling team. These club members have shown a lot of interest in the team. Single track mountain biking and cycle cross courses open up in the fall, so Joslin and Mosley are planning on hosting events there.
For Joslin, cycling has been a part of his routine since finishing his college swimming.
“I started getting into it after college, when I was done swimming and I wanted to do triathlons,” Joslin said. “From my old house I would always ride my bike into work as well.”
Joslin has been competing in triathlons every summer since college.
