Westside vs. Millard North Recap
In a wild week of football, the Westside football team was not immune to the upset bug. The team squared off in a prime-time Thursday matchup against then No. 6 Millard North. The team lost a close game 42-35.
The game started off well for the Warriors who traded points with the Mustangs throughout the first half, before taking a 28-20 halftime lead.
In the third quarter, the Mustangs were the only team to strike coming within one touchdown against the Warriors. The Warriors countered with a touchdown of their own with 5:50 left in the game, making it 35-27. This would be the last time the Warriors would score.
On the first play after the kickoff Millard North scored on an 80-yard keeper from quarterback Clay Fisher, making it 35-35 after a completed two-point conversion. The Mustangs scored again on a 1-yard rush, again by Fisher, with 1:13 left in the game.
The Warriors had a chance to score again, but failed to convert a fourth down to end the game.
The Warriors couldn’t contain Fisher who had his second consecutive 300-yard rushing game. Fisher finished with 315 yards and 6 td’s rushing.
The Warrior offense managed to have a productive day led by quarterback senior Christian Hagan, who had 128 yards passing and one touchdown to go along with 99 yards rushing and a touchdown. Senior Lane Yates, who finished with three touchdowns on 104 yards rushing, and Jamaal Conway-Smith, who caught one touchdown on 65 receiving yards, also had productive games.
Westside falls to the No. 6 ranking with the loss, while Millard North jumps to No. 3. The Warriors will look to rebound this Friday against 5-3 Papillion-LaVista South. The winner of the game will be the district champion.
