Interactive Games Club Annual “Overday”

Twice a year, from 10 a.m. to 10 P.M., members of the Interactive Games Club participate in what is now called the “Overday” (formerly “Overnight”). In the “Overday,” the members congregate in the courtyard of the high school to play everything from Dungeons and Dragons to Call of Duty, all the while being supplied with lunch and dinner. Interactive Games Club sponsor Ben Powers told the story of why the club switched from overnight to all day last year.

“We would be locked in from 6 p.m., and leave at 7 in the morning,” Powers said. “Some kids would sleep through half of it, and some kids stayed up through all of it. But what myself and [science instructor Michael] Fryda found out was that we would be exhausted afterwards. It took too much of a physical toll on us, so we decided to switch it to during the day.”

Powers went on to note that spirit and morale were higher during the all day lock-in, and despite being locked in for around the same amount of time, nobody fell asleep.

The “Overday” this year will be on Saturday, Dec. 7. Interactive Games Club president Joel Beckley described one new thing that the club will be doing this year.

“Our keeper of records [Stevie Allison] is organizing a Pokémon tournament, something that I have always tried to do but failed at,” Beckley said.

Even alumni members and sponsors, such as former Westside instructor Kristy Edgar (formerly Hagerup), come back to spend the day with their fellow gamers.

The Interactive Games Club “Overday” is a staple of the club and something that all members look forward to the entire semester.

“The overday is one of the best things that happens all year,” Beckley said. “Just come in, play games, and have fun with people. Forget about all the problems you have and come in and have a good time.”
