There are a lot of game shows and reality shows out there, but this new one is definitely different from all the rest. “Splash” had it’s debut episode last Tuesday on ABC. The show features celebrities performing dives off of a variety of platform heights. Since it is one of the first episodes, the celebrities started off on the lower diving platforms and will work their way up to higher diving platforms throughout the season. I came across the show while I was switching channels and just had to watch it because of the meltdowns and flops being shown in the warmups. One of the celebrities in this odd show is former Nebraska football player Ndamukong Suh, who took a beating when he hit his head on the bottom of the pool.
I have to give these celebrities props for actually trying to attempt fancier dives. However, I find the hosts a little bit rude and scripted to the point where it is extremely obvious to the viewers. It was funny because it was so dreadful, but I am not sure that it was the point of the show to be funny. The professional diver judges take it way too seriously for the show to purposefully be humorous, making me think that this show is supposed to be serious in a way kind of like Dancing with the Stars. The producers could have named the show Diving with the Stars because it uses the same video montages, scoring values, and washed up celebrities as Dancing with the Stars. My only questions are who thought of this show, what producer put money into the show thinking that it was good, and how many more weeks will it air before it is cancelled?
