The Metro tournament for swimming involved 15 teams and was held over a span of two days at Millard West. The boys swim team was edged out by Papillion-La Vista/Papillion-La Vista South 211-209, placing them in fourth. The girls swim team did slightly better placing third and pushing out Millard North 327-323.
Freshman Elizabeth Amato-Hanner won the 100 free with a time of 53.58. Her time leads the state for the 100 free. Amato-Hanner also won the 100 breaststroke in 1:08.96.
The divers that have qualified for state this year include Kate Durst, Erin North, and Maddie Simon. The girls that have qualified for swimming are Elizabeth Amato-Hanner, Sammi Baker, Savanna Couillard, Maggie Kroeger, Grace Porter, Sage Porter, Hannah Miller, and Ashlee Wigness-Lindaman.
The boys that have qualified for state include Quentin Bishop, Tyler Brattain, Sam Kupka, Matt O’Dell, Paul O’Dell, and Jack Watsabaugh.
Secondary Qualifiers that have been selected to fill the remaining spots at state include Alysha Abraham, Kylene Abraham, Carolyn Hanus, Maddie Rall, Rylie Towne, Jacob Andrews, Jimmy Esola, Karl Khandalavala, and Cameron Port.
The state championships will be held Thursday, February 21-23 at the Devaney Center in Lincoln.
