In show choir there is singing, dancing, and the often overlooked side of the background music. Similar to the show choir, the Amazing Technicolor Show Band (ATSB) is an award winning show band.
ATSB travels with the show choir to all of their competitions and provides the background music for the show choir to dance to. In most competitions there is an award for best band.
“The competition between bands is fierce, but we usually come out on top because we are the best,” said Tenor Saxophonist Karl Khandalavala.
ATSB has become very consistant in their performances during competition. They win nearly every best band award.
“Some competitions we aren’t eligible because [Denise] Millard (pianist) is an adult” said ATSB drummer Henry Dobson.
ATSB provides more than just the background music. The success of ATSB has positively effected the performance of the show choir.
“It is nice to know that our band will preform well. They really give us the extra energy we need when we preform.” said ATSC member Quinn Nelson.
One of the reasons that ATSC is able to preform so well with ATSB is because of how much they are able to practice with the band outside of competition.
“I have class three times a week. The other guys just come in on Thursday for a full group practice” said Dobson.
Combining an award winning show choir with an award winning show band allows ATSC to have a very high chance of winning. This year, ATSC has won all three of their competitions.
