A local chicken spot, Burning Bridges, has recently opened a brick and mortar location in Harvey Oaks shopping center after a couple years of running a food truck around Omaha. The restaurant specializes in chicken sandwiches and burgers, with gluten-free options available for all sandwich options. I’m a massive fan of chicken sandwiches, especially Nashville Hot Sandwiches (which they offer), so I decided to head down and give them a shot myself.
Walking into the restaurant you instantly get a view of the entire place. While relatively basic, the space achieves everything it needs to: easy to see menus and food displays, plenty of seating and a space that doesn’t feel like it’s missing anything. To get a feel for everything, I tried the Nashville Hot Sandwich, a basic burger, their “Twister Fries” and their Pickle Chips (along with a drink). Everything amounted to $42, which is a steep price, but is understandable for a local shop. The Nashville Hot alone cost $14.
After a little under 10 minutes or so of sitting, all of the food came out in a bag, which is nice if you don’t eat everything. I pulled out my sandwich and the chicken breast was nearly double the size of the bun, which made the price more reasonable.
To start with the appetizers, the pickle chips were actually a very nice surprise. They were lightly breaded to not drown out the flavor, and seasoned extremely well. They were great when hot, but a little too drowned out by pickle juice when cold, so they’re definitely a “start with me” food. The “Twister Fries” turned out to be just curly fries. While a good and crispy batch of fries, I did expect more with their description and price of five dollars per order. Despite this, the sides were definitely enough to impress me as I went into the main entree.
The Nashville Hot Sandwich was probably close to the size of my face, and honestly a bit of a challenge to eat. The amount of grease that comes with these sandwiches is a bit of a hassle to control as well. It’s not a huge setback though when the sandwich was as good as I thought it was. The Nashville seasoning gave the sandwich incredible flavor, and the chicken was fried to perfection. The sauce added on the sandwich was interesting too: spicy, but with some horseradish added to it to enhance the flavor even more (and clear out your nostrils if you’re as bad with spice as I am). The pickles complimented the sandwich well, and the brioche bun served as a great compliment to the chicken. It was a Nashville Hot Sandwich done very well from its distance of origin. While the sandwich was impressive, the burger was nothing to draw as much attention to as the sandwich. While the patty was cooked well, it was just kind of an average burger overall.here’s not much to say about it.
While I had a couple critiques, I was impressed by Burning Bridges with all things considered. The restaurant was well run and clean, the food was impressive for the most part, and the Gluten-free options are great to have for people who may have issues with Gluten. I’d give my visit an 8/10 overall, with a decent chance that I’d return sometime.
