As spring sports near the end of their seasons, certain athletes begin to separate themselves from their competitors. One of those athletes is Warrior junior Auzyln Anderson. Whether competing in the triple jump, long jump, or running on the blazing hot track, Anderson’s performances have turned heads. Known for her discipline both on and off the track, she truly represents the definition of hard work, and her commitment to the sport shines through every time she steps onto the track.
Anderson’s journey in track and field has taken her beyond local competitions and into the spotlight. Recently, she traveled to New York to compete in the Nike Indoor Nationals, where she showcased her skills in her top events. Her performance there is a clear reflection of her hard work, discipline, and determination to always push herself so she can compete with the best.
But the road to success hasn’t been easy. Anderson’s dedication to her sport means making sacrifices that not many are willing to make. Her schedule is always packed, and she’s constantly moving to stay at the top of her game. Whether she’s in Omaha or Lincoln, she trains hard every day, always trying to get better. Each week, she plans out her routine to make sure she’s putting in the time and effort needed to keep working toward all of her goals whether that is on the track or in school.
“On a typical week during the season I have school practice Monday through Saturday,” Anderson said. “Then on Sundays and Tuesdays I drive down to lincoln to lift with my weights coach.”
Youth sports can cause a lot of stress on both the mental and physical sides. But Anderson has never let that get in the way of her goals and dreams. Anderson has been competing in track events for as long as she can remember. Track and field isn’t just a sport to her but a passion that’s been with her for years. The journey hasn’t always been easy, but her love for the sport is what keeps her motivated. Andersons coach along with others have recognized the hard work and dedication she has given to the sport all of these years.
“Auzlyn has big goals when it comes to the events she does,” Coach Lloyd said. “She is very competitive and does just about everything she can to be successful in her events. This sometimes can drive her to be hard on herself, but not necessarily in a bad way.”
Currently ranked 3rd in Class A for the triple jump with a personal best of 38.5 feet, Anderson is on a path to continue improving. Despite her impressive accomplishments, staying motivated and focused is no simple task for anyone. Like many athletes, she has faced many moments when self-doubt creeps in but she has never let that stop her.
“My younger self inspires me to keep pushing myself. I love the saying ‘do it for her,’”Anderson said. “She has been through so much, and has persevered through so many trials and tribulations, so I owe it to her to continue to push through adversity to see the sun on the other side of the shadows.”
Anderson’s future in track and field is looking brighter than ever. Between her competitive mindset, motivation and love for the sport she will continue to turn heads and improve every day.
