The annual Omaha Sports Commission Awards Show (OSCAS) is being held on May 29, 2025, at the Relevant Center in Elkhorn. Westside is familiar to the OSCAS after having the football team, football coach Paul Limongi, and track athlete Lademi Davies were nominated last year. This year four alumni from Westside have been nominated.
In the category “male athlete of the year,” senior Christian Jones from the football team is nominated. Jones recently received the Dick Butkus award after an outstanding senior season. Throughout his time at Westside he had 155 tackles, 100 of which were solo tackles. Jones will play football at the University of Nebraska Lincoln.
For the “female athlete of the year” category, former Warrior Stella Miner from the track and cross country teams is nominated. She broke the state record in the 1600 with a time of 4:47, the 800 with a time of 2:06, and was a part of the team who broke the 3200 meter relay with a time 0f 9:03. Miner broke three records in her time at Westside and now runs at Kansas State University.
In the “moment of the year” category, senior Trevor Gutschewski is nominated. Last season Gutschewski led Westside to one the largest comebacks in state tournament history. Going into the final round of the NSAA state championship, the Warriors were in third place and down by ten strokes. Along with his teammates, Gutschewski led the historic comeback with a 69 in the final round and helped Westside win back to back state championships. More recently, Gutschewski also won the United States Golf Association (USGA) Jr. Amateur golf championship. He also became the second Nebraskan to win a USGA event since Johnny Goodman won in the 1937 US Open. Gutschewski will attend the University of Florida this fall.
Alongside Gutschewski in this category is former Warrior Cade Haberman from Northern Illinois football team. Haberman graduated from Westside in 2021 and graduated from Northern Illinois this past year. He made 51 appearances in his time in college football, and he finished with 66 total tackles, 32 solo, from his nose tackle position. He totaled 3.5 sacks and 5.5 tackles for loss in his career. Most notably, he blocked two Notre Dame field goals in their 2024 game, which led to an upset victory for his team.
Make sure to vote for your favorite Warriors. Voting will run from April 7 to 21 at omahasports.org/OSCASvoting.
