The Westside Girls Varsity basketball team is riding a hot streak rolling into district play that begins this week. The squad is winners of 8 in a row and has gone 13-2 since the New Year started. Thats a positive stretch for a team who’s been consistently drubbing their in-state opponents as of late. Since earning a hard-fought 55-54 win vs Lee’s Summit West of Missouri on Jan 31, the Warriors have collectively outscored their competitors 472-260. Leading scorers through regular season play are freshmen Himayajo Metoyer at 15.6 points per game, and senior Kimora Jenkins averaging 11.6 ppg. Junior Sanai Foster is contributing almost 10 points along with 7 rebounds per outing.
District A-7
Wednesday: Norfolk at Omaha Westside, 6:15 p.m.; Lincoln Northeast at Kearney. Friday: Final.
Westside’s regular season record allows them to be the host of District A-7. They begin play Feb 26th against 7-15 Norfolk @ 6:15. The other game in the bracket will match the #2 seed Kearney Bearcats (16-5) with the #3 seed from Lincoln, the Northeast Rockets. Westside hasn’t played any of their district competitors this year, which is kind of abnormal for Class A basketball in Nebraska. However, they did play both Kearney and Lincoln NE last season dropping both of those games.
A-7 Prediction
Westside defeats Norfolk. Kearney wins vs Northeast.
Final Feb 28 @ Westside
Westside 58- Kearney 52
As always, check the teams progress on Westside Wired or on our Social Media feeds. The girls State Tournament starts play March 5th in Lincoln.
