The girls bowling team started their season off on the right foot. The girls have bowled many matches undefeated. The girls bowled in the Millard North Holiday invite, and took first place. Many girls earned awards including Manuela Katé and Abigail Rosloniec who made all tournament team for the invitational.
Manuela Katé talks about how good it feels to be part of the all tournament team.
“Being part of an all tournament team is a full circle moment after only starting bowling my freshman year. Seeing my progress and growth over the last couple years has been one of the biggest personal accomplishments of my life,” Katé said. “Placing amongst bowlers that have been bowling all their life proves that you can start any journey at any age and still be able to compete.”
Senior Abigail Rosloniec talks highly of the team, as they haven’t dropped a win all season. She also talks about what it means to be part of the all tournament team in the invite.
“I feel really good about the team. We are doing really well as a team this year,” Rosloniec said, “This is the first time that I’ve been on the all tournament team so it was a really big accomplishment for me especially getting 2nd place.”
Katé feels really good about the outcome of the invite, she talks really positively about the team and how it gave them a confidence boost.
“I feel the overall outcome of the match was deeply positive and relying on one another to get through with the win of the tournament. Being down one bowler we were able to succeed which gave the rest of the team a confidence boost. Also being down one bowler proves to everyone else that we are all bowlers to watch out for knowing we are a great team,” Katé said.
During the Millard North Invite there was a lot of pressure. Rosleniec explains how mindset is really important going into tough matches.
“Going into the tournament we were all positive and our goal was to win,” Rosleniec said. “I uplifted my teammates by telling them they can do it and staying positive.”
Both Rolesniec and Katé support the team by being supportive and encouraging to their teammates. Kate is a leader in this way for the team.
“Uplifting my teammates is something I take to heart. Even if it’s forcing your teammates to smile, being able to help their mental and emotional game is natural to me. Having an open and welcoming personality makes it easy for my teammates to come to me if they need encouragement. “Simple high-fives and ‘good shots’ to my teammates is what makes the difference in the team atmosphere,” Katé said.
Roslaniec and Kate support their teammates, but their teammates also cheer them on, which helps them both do well.
Roslaniec exceeded her expectations for herself during the invite.
“I was very happy with my overall performance. I tried my best and I think I did very well,” Roslaniec said.
Katé explains her accomplishments during the invite.
“My overall performance was one of my bests on spare conversion. We always take into account one miss spare is 11 points off your total score. Being able to pick up spares is just as important as strikes within the baker format. If you don’t strike, picking up a spare is the best next thing to set up the girl after you,” Katé said.
Overall the tournament went really well for the Westside girls bowling team.
“No matter if the Millard North Invite was one of the worst bowling days for me and my teammates, we were still able to compete and put up amazing scores”
The girls have only dropped 2 losses this season and are heading to Metros to try and take titles on Wednesday Jan, 29.
