On December 5th, the boys bowling team swept Creighton Prep at West Lanes. With some improvements still to be made, the team has made a lot of progress since last season. During this match, Mason Allen broke a school record with a score of 277 in the first match.
Coach McDonald talks about how the team started off strong and didn’t slow down throughout the match. He also mentions how this is a great way to start off the season.
“They really attacked right out of the gate. We did a great job of jumping on the opponent and not letting our foot off the gas pedal as the competition progressed. This was key to a dominating first performance of the season,” McDonald said.
Senior Mason Allen talks about how exciting it was to break a school record and talks about the amazing support he got from his teammates. He also mentions that he unfortunately was three pins short from breaking his record of 279.
“It felt great to break that record. Got to make a little history during my senior year. Hope someone comes along and beats it soon though.Huge thanks to my teammates for all the support they gave me during these last few years. Wouldn’t be here without you all,” Mason said.
Logan Allen, Mason’s younger brother, talks about how proud he is of Mason. Logan also says that he knew this would happen because Mason has been putting in the work.
“I’m really proud of him. He’s an amazing bowler and I knew by the time he graduated he was going to break that record, he was dead set on it,” Logan said.
The hard work that was put in during the offseason is really showing in the scores. Coach talks about the scores of the match.
“The first match the team total pinfall of the boys was 976 and for the second match it was 879. This resulted in a clean sweep for the boys,” McDonlad said.
Bowling is a very big mental game. Mason talks about some of the challenges and how he overcomes them, and also how his teammates help him overcome these challenges.
“The sport of bowling is 90% mental. Your teammates play a vital role in the way your game plays out. If everyone is hyped great things will happen. Also in the case of a game like this, people know what not to say. If you start talking about perfection, you’re bound to come up short,” Mason said.
Coach also talks about how proud he is of these student athletes and that he is excited to see the successes the rest of the season is going to bring.
“Really proud of our bowlers and can’t wait to see them shine the rest of the season,” McDonald said.
This win against Prep was a good victory since they are Westside’s rivals and they take on Papillion LaVista on December 10th.. The team is hopeful to have a good run this year and to make it to state.
