Signing day was one for the ages, as 18 Westside athletes put pen to paper signing their National Letters of Intent. Athletes from 10 different sports from football to cheer and everything in between. The athletes signed with a total of 13 different colleges. The Warriors signees made their commitment official on February 7th signing their National Letters of Intent.
Nick Oberle
The back to back state championship winning football team led all sports with eight players signings. The first was Nick Oberle who signed with Concordia University. Oberle says he’s really going to miss the Westside culture.
“Something I’m going to miss about Westside is the culture and playing with everyone,” Oberle said. “These guys are my brother, so it’s going to be hard to leave.”
Trevor Spady
Three athletes signed their letters of intent to Northwest Missouri State University. Tight end Trevor Spady had 336 yards and three touchdowns his senior year. Spady says the culture at Northwest Missouri state reminds him of Westside.
“I chose Northwest Missouri because of the winning culture,” Spady said. “It really reminds me a lot of Westside and I can really see myself there for the next four years because of that.”
Jordon Hurst
Jordon Hurst is the second of the three students going to Northwest Missouri State. The senior was a big part of what is considered one of the states best defenses ever. Hurst had three interceptions, including a game sealing pick six against No. 2 Millard South in the regular season. Hurst says he’s really going to miss the game day feeling at Westside.
“What I’m going to miss most about Westside is the game day environment, there like no other,” Hurst said.
Broc Regner
The football team had one offensive lineman sign, Broc Regner to Northwest Missouri State. Regner was one of the anchors of the offensive line, who made way for the running backs to average nearly eight yards per carry and nearly 250 yards per game rushing. Regner says he’s going to miss the family aspect of Westside
“All the sports I do it’s a great atmosphere,” Regner said. “There’s a lot of things to miss about Westside. It’s such a great family, everyone loves you, I’m going to miss that a lot.”
Jonquel Osler
The football team also had two players sign to the University of Nebraska Kearney. Defensive lineman Jonquel Osler is one. He was second on the team in sacks, with four and totalled 13 tackles for loss. Osler really loves the direction the Lopes program is headed, and that is why he chose UNK.
“I chose Kearney because I think it’s going to be a winning atmosphere soon and it’s so much like Westside,” Osler said. “There’s a lot of love in the building and I felt welcome.”
Jahmez Ross
Jahmez Ross will join Osler at UNK next fall. Ross led the state in rushing with 1,524 yards and also led the state with his school record 22 rushing touchdowns. The senior star also carried the ball 19 times for 125 yards and two touchdowns in the Warriors historical state championship win. Ross chose the Lopers for similar reasons as his teammate Osler.
“The reason I chose Kearney is I think coach Ryan Held is going to do something really special with his knowledge,” Ross said. “Coaching a lot of running backs, I think he can get me where I want to go.”
R.J. Eckhardt
Another Westside defensive lineman signed as well. R.J. Eckhardt signed with Augustana University. Eckhardt led the team with seven sacks and also had nine tackles for loss. Eckhardt chose Augustana because of life after college.
“The reason I chose Augustana was I think they set me up the best for post college things in the future,” Eckhardt said.
Anthony Rezac
The final Warrior to sign to play football was Anthony Rezac. Rezac will join his twin brother Teddy, who has already signed at the University of Notre Dame. The senior compiled several achievements this season including the state championship, Nebraska Gatorade Player of the Year and multiple school records. Rezac will leave the red and black for the blue and gold as one of the most decorated athletes of all time.
“Something I’m going to miss about Westside is the people,” Rezac said. “All the support from everyone. The whole community every Friday night is unmatched, I’m really thankful to have that for my whole high school career.”
Jackson Wing
Football player Jackson Wing signed to play at Iowa Central Community College, but for rugby, not football. Wing was a big part of the Warrior offensive line that really helped power the Westside offense. The rugby signee chose Iowa Central because of the brotherhood.
“The reason I chose Iowa Central is they just have a really good brotherhood and the culture is next to none there,” Wing said.
Regan Rosseter
Regan Rosseter is the first women wrestler to sign a letter of intent to compete at college level. Rosseter signed to Chadron State College. The senior is a three-time state champion and is looking for her fourth gold medal later this month.
“The thing I’m going to miss most is just the brotherhood the boys give us and the sisterhood,” Rosseter said. “All the coaches and all the support you give us.”
Jayden Wall
Jayden Wall signed to Doane University to continue running track and cross country. Wall placed 10th in the state meet this season. He says he’s going to miss his teammates.
“The thing I’m going to miss most about Westside is my teammates and having them push me everyday.”
Jay Coughlin
Jay Coughlin was the lone baseball commit of the 18 signees. The senior chose Northeast Community College to continue his journey. Coughlin will be the main pitcher on the mound for Warriors this spring. Coughlin believes the Hawks provide him with the best chance to get to the next level.
“I picked Northeast because it’s a great spot to get me to the next level,” Coughlin said.
Addison Kasel
The Warriors had two soccer players sign to continue playing, one of them Addison Kasel, who’s staying near home. Kasel signed with Bellevue University to continue her academic and athletic career. She says staying close to home was important.
“I chose Bellevue because of the coaches and the atmosphere,” Kasel said. “The team, they were all super welcoming. It’s also not too far away from home so I can visit my family whenever I like.”
Sydney Hagen
The second athlete to sign for soccer is Sydney Hagen. Hagen was one of the many Iowa Central Community College commits to sign. Hagen really loved what Iowa Central offered as a school.
“I chose Iowa Central because I felt like it was a good school, big campus and good people there,” Hagen said. “I really loved the coach a lot.”
Isabel Kleidosty
The Warriors even had an athlete sign for cheer and stunt team. Isabel Kleidosty signed with Oklahoma State University. Kleidosty isn’t actually a part of the Warrior cheer teams, but rather for a competitive team called the Elite Cheer Stars. The cheer Kleidosty competes at is a very high level and uses stunts as the focal point. Oklahoma State has been at the top of her list for quite some time.
“I chose Oklahoma State because the opportunity that they have there, their amazing coaching staff and all their athletes,” Kleidosty said. “They have amazing training facilities and they’ve been one of my top colleges for a very long time.”
Rylie Preister
Rylie Preister is one of the four athletes that will play multiple sports in college. Preister signed with College of Saint Mary to compete in both track and field and basketball. She signed with the flames because it gave her the opportunity to play both sports.
“I chose the school because it gave me the opportunity to play both my sports at the next level,” Preister said. “And I just fell in love with the culture they’re building there.”
MacKenna Bush
The third athlete to sign with Iowa Central Community College was MacKenna Bush. She is going to play basketball at Iowa Central. Bush says she’s really gonna miss the bond at Westside.
“The big thing I’m gonna miss at Westside is just the family that I joined, especially with my teammates and the bond that I’ve created,” Bush said.
Lakelyn Joslin
Lakelyn Joslin signed with Lake Erie to play two sports. She will be playing both lacrosse and basketball. Joslin is the third Warrior to sign to play girls basketball. The senior also chose her college because she has the opportunity to play both sports.
“I chose this college because I can play both sports I love and I really love the coaches,” Joslin said.
The 2024 winter signing class is definitely one people will remember for quite some time. The class is near the top in the number of athletes signing. The similar message between all 18, lots of thanks for the people who made the journey possible, and their love for Westside High School.
