Senior wrestler Regan Rosseter has committed to Chadron State to continue her athletic career at the next level. She will be the first female wrestler from Westside to continue her career at the collegiate level.
Rosseter did not think too much about going to Chadron State until the coaching staff made her an offer.
“To be honest, I didn’t really like thinking about going there until the offer came,” Rosseter said.
For Rosseter things quickly changed once she toured the campus up in Northwest Nebraska.
“It felt like home, a small town,” Rosseter said. “The coaches have been there since June and they like to have a relationship with all the wrestlers so I thought that was pretty cool.”
As her final high school season begins, Rosseter has her sights set on the state championship.
“We got state runner up last year so we’re gearing up for that state title,” Rosseter said.
Coach Bob Mulligan is very impressed by Rosseter’s work and success and is one of the many reasons why the program at Westside has experienced so much growth over the past few years.
“She makes my job easy by being a hard worker,” Mulligan said. “She is a great teammate and fantastic advocate for the sport.”
With a growing roster, Rosseter is eager to have more talent join the wrestling program.
“We had a couple of transfers, Mara Vanderpool and Kenzie Martin,” Rosseter said. “Kenzie actually was a state qualifier last year and Mara is bringing some great talent.”
As the program continues to grow, Mulligan thinks Rosseter has been an important piece to the growth of the girls wrestling program.
“Regan has been instrumental in our growth and success,” Mulligan said. “Her freshman year we were a team of one girl, and now we have 19 girls signed up.”
As girls wrestling continues to improve on the mat, many Jr.Warriors are looking up to athletes like Rosseter.
“There’s a bunch of other girls that look up to me, ask me a bunch of questions, and I’m always there for them. So it’s just like, keep pushing them,” Rosseter said.
