The Warriors competed at the Metro Championship meet Thursday. The team had great success at the meet last season, and continued their cycle of success this year with the girls placing second and the boys placing fourth in the meet.
Senior Stella Miner was the star of the show this meet coming in first place with a time of 19:05.11.
This was a triumphant win for Miner as she’s had to battle a lot of adversity throughout her career.
“I’ve had an up and down high school career. It feels like I’m coming full circle because I know my freshman year I was really successful. There has been some low points in between then and now, but it feels really good,” said Miner said.
Senior Claire White also ran a great race finishing in 19:09.28.
The one – two punch of Miner and Claire White helped the team finish second overall as a team, but not without the effort of Sophomore Mia Urosevich who also had a good race and finished eighth in the meet with a time of 19:59.98.
Miner attributed some of her success to her team Claire White who came in second. The two use each other as friendly competitors to push themselves to a level that they didn’t know they had.
“We just love running together, we’re just so strong when we do it together. There’s no point in doing it individually when we can just do everything side by side,”said Miner said.
“Recruiting has been really crazy the past few days, the past few months honestly, but I haven’t quite committed yet,”said Miner.
Miner will run at a Division 1 University next fall. She’s narrowed her list down to Illinois, Kansas State, KU, and Iowa State.
The boys also had a great performance, senior Jayden Wall placed ninth with a time of 16:42.67. Junior Ryan Kugler didn’t finish too far behind coming in 11th with a time of 16:47.65.
Wall uses his competitive drive to push himself through the toughest parts of the race.
“I thrive on and in competition. I love racing and everything that comes with it so enjoying it makes it 10x easier,” said Wall.
“It being my senior year has motivated me, I want to go out with a banger of a season,” said Wall.
Westside cross country will try to keep this string of success at the District meet this Thursday.
