Westside freshman Troy Shefsky is undefeated in the No.2 tennis singles and is one of the top players in the state. At the Fremont Invitational he defeated Lincoln Southeast 8-3 and Elkhorn Mount Michael 8-3 in the championship pool to take first place.
Shefsky explained how it felt to win as a freshman.
“I feel gifted and thankful for everytime i step on the court,” Shefsky said. “I’m just happy to be out there and playing.”
Tennis varsity head coach Bart Jeseritz shares how he feels on Shefsky’s win.
“He may only be a freshman, but he has worked incredibly hard at his tennis game for a very long time,” Jeseritz said. “I am so happy for him to see him getting the results that I know he has worked for.”
As the season keeps progressing, Shefsky explained the emotions he feels after he clutches his wins and how he can already feel the progression throughout this season.
“I feel I have gotten better at being a leader as a freshman,” Shefsky said. “When I get the win I have a mix of emotions based on how I played, win or lose.”
Jeseritz has been watching him perform and shares what he is excited to see from him for the rest of the season and the future.
“Currently Troy is undefeated in singles action which is incredible, He is one of the top players in the state at #2 singles, and I can’t wait to see him perform at our invitationals the rest of the season, then at Metro and State,” Jeseritz said. “He has very big goals for himself, and I hope he is able to achieve everything he has set his mind to.”
