The Westside track and field team headed into the state meet with confidence. The boys team finished fourth with 54 points. The Warrior girls finished as the state runner-up with 61 points. Senior Lademi Davies and Jaylen Lloyd had amazing performances as this is their last meet in their high school career.

Davies finished her season with four golds. Davies won the triple jump with a leap of 38 feet and 6.25 inches. She also won the long jump with a jump of 19 feet and 9.75 inches. Not to forget she also won the 100 meters with a time of 11.71, and the 200 meters with a time of 24.37. Davies expresses what she felt to bring home 4 gold medals.

“It feels amazing,” Davies said. “It feels like the accumulation of the past four years of just working and Mr. Preister and coach Steve know what they are doing and can help me get to the place where I want to be.”

Husker recruit Jaylen Lloyd finished the season with two golds and silver. Lloyd won the triple jump with a leap of 47 feet and ll.75 inches. He also won the long jump with a jump of 23 feet and 2.25 inches. He got silver in 100m with a time of 10.47. Creighton’s Jack Gilliogly just edged him out with a time of 10.43. Lloyd explains how he felt about his performance.

“I’m proud of how my last track meet went,” Lloyd said. “Especially knowing the injuries I went through and just being able to get back and compete at peak form from last time in highschool I’m honored to have my state championships.”

Davies holds the Westside girls record for 100 meters and 200 meters. Davies expresses what she was feeling while running both races.

“For both of the races I was nervous because in the triple jump I stung my heel,” Davies said. “But it felt so good to get myself in race mode and be able to execute everything I’ve been working on for the past few weeks and see the results.”

Davies will be attending the University of Texas-Austin with a music scholarship and walk on to the track team. While Lloyd will be going to the University of Nebraska with a scholarship for football and track.
