January 19, 2023

The Westside girls wrestling team headed into the Metro Conference Tournament with confidence and high expectations for the team. The Warriors finished fourth in the team competition at Burke High School on Saturday, Jan 14.

Westside’s Zoey Barber, who is newly ranked 29th in the nation, headed into her first Metro Tournament and expressed her thoughts about how the experience was after winning the 135-pound title.

“The experience was really exciting and I had a really fun time wrestling at the tournament,” Barber said.

Westside head coach Bob Mulligan spoke about his expectations for the team heading into the tournament.

“Our expectations this season was to compete at a very high level and potentially compete for a metro team title,” Mulligan said.

Westside had six wrestlers place at the Metro Tournament. Regan Rosseter won the 125-pound title. Macy Barber and Kirsten Geiger finished in third place. Piper Zatechka took fifth place honors. Barber spoke about the experience with the team and the teams overall performance at Metros.

“Our performance as a team was very good, having two champs was a good way to showcase Westside wrestling at Metros,” Barber said.

Mulligan spoke about the team’s performance at the tournament as well.

“I was very pleased with Zoey’s performance. She battled through some adversity and beat some very tough wrestlers. I couldn’t be prouder of how we competed as a team. We finished in fourth with only six wrestlers. We had two champions, two third places, a 5th place, and an 8th place.” Mulligan said, “We wrestled hard and represented Westside girls wrestling very well.”

The Westside girls wrestling team will head back to action at the Louisville Invitational on Friday, Jan 20.
