Over the last couple of weeks, the Westside varsity track team has competed in multiple meets indoor and outdoor. Competing well many runners have PR and placed in events. The long-distance runners put up good times during the last couple of meets, Coach Gosnell talks about how the runners performed.

“It went really well and several runners placed in first, second, third, and fourth in the mile and one in the two-mile for girls,” Gosnell said. “They are really progressing especially for those that didn’t really get a lot of running over the winter. They’re getting in shape now and their times are starting to drop.”

Junior distance-runner Reese Young-Oestmann competes in the one-mile and two-mile events and has been shown as a top-ten runner in the ladder.  Over the last few meets, she has recorded personal bests in both of her events. Young-Oestmann talks about the last couple meet for the team and herself.

I think that these past meets have been pretty good for the whole team, everyone’s doing really well,” Young-Oestmann said. “I’m hoping to keep getting PRs, and shave off time from my events.”

Over the past few weeks, the girls and boys both participated in the Westside Invitational, Millard South Invite, and the Titan Classic at Papillion-La Vista South. The girls placed fifth in the Westside Invitational, placing third in the Millard South Invite, and placing eighth in the Titan Classic. The boys, however, placed sixth in the Westside Invitational, placed seventh in the Millard South Invite, and placed fourth in the Titan Classic.

Coach Haberman talks about how the team is coming together and how everyone is getting better week through the week.

“Throwing is such a technical event that taking a year off because of COVID last year and not having a track season would hurt us but Cade Haberman is out there and is placing in every meet we have gone to,” coach Haberman said. “Just with the throwing aspect, it is a hard and technical event to miss a year but they are doing a great job.”

The Warriors track and field team will be back in action on Friday as they head out to Blair for the Blair Bears Invite looking to add to their strong start to the season.
