The Westside girls varsity basketball team hit the road to visit Lincoln on Saturday, March 3, 2018, to play Millard South for a shot at the history books. Behind Quinn Weidemann’s 18 and Ella Wedergren’s 10 points, the seniors were sent off into the sunset with a state championship trophy via a 55-44 win.
“Winning the last game that I’ll ever play for Westside was really exciting,” Weidemann said.
The Warriors got off to a hot start as they took a 17-7 lead into the end of the first and a 27-11 lead into the halftime break. Westside shot 23-for-30 (76.7%) from the free throw line in the game, and they held Millard South to 16-for-46 (34.8%) from the field to grab the second state championship trophy in four years. Head coach Steve Clark said they did exactly what they were expecting.
“I was really hoping for a quick start, and we did,” Clark said.
There will be a pep rally to celebrate during homeroom on Monday, March 5, 2018.
