From vintage vinyl to your sweet tooth needs, the Old Market has it all

October 16, 2017

The Old Market is a historical neighborhood in Omaha that dates back to 1979. This old fashioned area is famous for its cobblestone streets, historic buildings, and horse-drawn carriages. When walking down the streets of the market, you’re bound to run into musical performers and artists displaying their work in the art galleries. Here are some cool places that you can visit in the Old Market:

Drastic Plastic and Homer’s

Drastic Plastic is a common record store that consumers can go to if they enjoy vintage and new albums on vinyl. The prices of these records are cheaper than the retail prices. If you’re looking for a newer album Drastic Plastic is the way to go, but if you’re in need for an old school record you might have more luck at Homer’s. Homer’s prices their records around the same scale as Drastic Plastic but their selection of records is much larger. Their organization system is also a little easier for buyers to quickly find what they’re looking for. Overall, both of these places are fantastic visits if you are looking for a record.

Ted and Wally’s

Ted and Wally’s is a classic spot in the Old Market. They’re famous for their homemade delicious ice cream created from a family recipe that’s been passed down for generations. Depending on what you’re ordering the prices can be lower or equal to what you would order at Cold Stone Creamery. Just for reference, I got one scoop of Dutch chocolate in a waffle cone and the total added up to $4.77.

Hollywood Candy

Another famous store in the Old Market is Hollywood Candy. Hollywood Candy is known for their unique range of candy, chocolate, and sweet treats. I noticed in the store that the prices of certain brand names were higher than usual. Despite unusually high prices, Hollywood Candy holds all of your sweet-tooth needs.

Pretty in Patina

Most apparel stores in the neighborhood are boutiques. Therefore, their prices are a little more on the pricy side. Pretty in Patina is a boutique that sells second hand luxury brands along with new items. The prices of new items are definitely higher priced and the trend continues in most boutiques in the Old Market. However, Pretty in Patina still offers many clothing items that look great!

The Old Market is a scenic place to spend a Sunday at. With the wide range of restaurants available, you’ll definitely not leave hungry. Whether you’re taking a horse-drawn carriage through the neighborhood and enjoying the view or strolling through the streets while shopping, you’re guaranteed a fun time.
