PREVIEW: Warriors take on Navigators

October 6, 2017

The Westside varsity football team will roll into Lincoln High’s Beechner Field on Friday, October 6, 2017, to take on the Lincoln North Star Navigators. The Warriors are coming off a close 35-28 loss to top-ranked Omaha Burke, and the Navigators will stroll in with confidence as they topped Omaha Northwest 35-21 in week six.

In a sloppy affair that resulted in a loss last week for the Warriors, the senior duo of Dylan Plautz and Caleb Schweigart was back at it as Plautz threw for 260 yards and 106 of those were on receptions by Schweigart.  Additionally, the run game provided support as they rushed for 106 yards on 23 attempts for an average of 5 yards per rush. Throughout the year,  Westside has run a balanced offense and this week should be no different.

On the other side of the ball, the Lincoln North Star Navigators will come into the matchup looking to defend their home turf in their fourth district game of 2017.  The Navigators are coming off a 35-17 road win at Omaha Northwest, and they are currently riding a two game winning streak.  In the week 6 win, the Navigators rushed the ball 46 times for 296 yards.  Their pass game didn’t offer much support as they threw for 34 yards on four completions.  This run-first offense should show up for the Navigators this week.

Omaha Westside will look to improve on their 4-2 record at Lincoln North Star on Friday, October 6, 2017, at 5 p.m.  Follow WestsideWired on Twitter for live updates during the game.
