Westside volleyball’s freshman, reserve, junior varsity and varsity teams partnered with The Side-out Foundation to raise funds for cancer research at their “Dig Pink” home games on Thursday.

The Side-out Foundation is a traveling fundraiser that visits national volleyball tournaments, and partners with select volleyball clubs around the country to raise awareness and hold fundraisers such as “Dig Pink.”

Varsity volleyball senior captains Clara Lamb and Makenna Freeman think the fundraiser “was a huge success.”

“Our mission is to impact others positively, and I think we did that well,” Lamb said.

All concessions funds and a volleyball signed by Olympic volleyball player Jordan Larson that was auctioned after the second set were donated to Side-out Foundation.

Varsity coach Krista Filipi stressed the importance of raising awareness.

“I think that we wish we [Westside Volleyball] could do more as a program and raise more money to give. It’s important to raise awareness because a lot of our coaches and players have family members that have been affected by cancer,” Filipi said.

The Warriors won their 3-set match over the Lincoln North Star Gators, but the real winner was the Side-out Foundation, receiving the funds raised by the teams to conduct cancer research.
