TACKLE TALK: Preview of tonight’s homecoming game

September 15, 2017

The Westside varsity football team is slated to hit the field with the Omaha Northwest Huskies on Friday, September 15, 2017 in their homecoming game.  The team is heading into week four with plenty of momentum as they’re coming off a 55-7 victory at Omaha South to make it two straight victories of 30 or more points. On the other side of the ball, Northwest’s quest for victory came to a screeching halt against Grand Island when they lost 42-0.

Westside is coming off a game where almost nothing could have gone better.  Plautz led the offense with a total of 219 passing yards, and the defense held their own by giving up a mere 206 total offensive yards.  The game was highlighted by a kickoff return for a touchdown by senior Jaden Kohls.  Last week, the Huskies gave up 202 rush yards against Grand Island, per MaxPreps.  The Warriors should continue to pound it through with Kohls and the rest of the run game, but they have Plautz there to back it up with solid passing if needed.

Northwest will hit the field carrying a 1-0  record on the road with the win coming by way of a 45-10 score.  Their overall currently sits at 1-2 with their other loss coming by way of a 51-7 score against Lincoln High.  In the matchup with Grand Island in week three, the Huskie defense allowed 102 pass yards on 12 completions and 202 rush yards on 39 attempts.

The matchup is a district game.  Westside currently holds a 1-0 record in their district for 2017, and will look to improve that this week.

Westside and Omaha Northwest will clash at Phelps Field on Friday, September 15, 2017, at 7 p.m.  The homecoming court ceremony will take place at halftime with a fireworks display at the conclusion of the game.
